HEBO – Community Arts Project serves up the 12th year of its popular children’s art program Slug Soup from Monday, June 25 to Friday, June 29. Any young person going into kindergarten through eighth grade next year is welcome to attend. It’s a creative, energy-filled week during which students experience new art forms, learn from local artist instructors, make new friends and celebrate their unique creativity. Classes are at Nestucca Valley Middle School, 19995 Blaine Road, in Beaver.

The 14 classes to be offered include two beginning art experiences for the K-1 group and for older students, dance and movement, scrapcard-making, paper-making, soft sculpture “creature”-making, book art, painting, calligraphy, watercolor, writing with illustration, collage, songwriting and jewelry-making. Students may attend a morning and/or an afternoon class each day.

Thanks to many generous contributing individuals, organizations and businesses, anyone interested can attend Slug Soup. If a family’s finances are tight, there are scholarship funds available. Families needing assistance can indicate so on the registration form (there is a minimal fee required for students attending on scholarship).

Community Arts Project always welcomes tax-deductible donations to help with scholarships and expenses associated with running the program. The goal is to keep tuition reasonable; contributions make this possible.

Slug Soup registration flyers are available by calling (503) 392-4581, or they can be picked up at the public library and Rainy Day Books in Tillamook; North Coast Coffee and the Chamber of Commerce office in Cloverdale; the public library, Grateful Bread Bakery and Migrations Café in Pacific City and the public library and The Book End in Lincoln City.
