Fishing
Legendary fishing
The Oregon and Washington coasts are an angler’s paradise. With a fishing industry that plays a vital role in the local economy, recreational fishing here is just as popular.
Drop a line in one of the many mountain creeks and rivers, stand in the surf, or stake out your spot at a jetty. To venture further into the sea, charter an offshore fishing trip. There’s tuna or rockfish from the Pacific Ocean, mountain river trout, and Dungeness crab. The opportunities seem endless.
There’s a reason that catches of Columbia River salmon and Pacific halibut are shipped and sold in restaurants and markets around the country — it’s hard to beat the quality of the Columbia-Pacific’s wild-caught fish.
Staying current
Fishing varies with the season. In the winter, look for wild steelhead from Nehalem Bay. In the summer, the Chinook salmon runs at the Buoy 10 fishery.
There’s a fish in the sea — or a clam in the sand — no matter the season. Learn more about what’s biting, when, and where by browsing the listings on this page.
If you’re new to the area, or at least to fishing here, look for knowledgeable anglers who know the waters and keep a pulse on the best catch.
Before beginning any fishing expedition, check fishing reports and water conditions.
