Consejo Hispano’s car smashing fund-raiser has the theme, “Smash, Celebrate, Empower!” It will take place 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. May 3 at Casa Mariposa, 565 12th St., in Astoria.

Organizers of the second-annual Golpetazo del Ano say it is an opportunity to safely “unleash your stress and show your support for our programs and services by taking swings at a car with a sledgehammer and other tools — all for a great cause.”

The evening will feature music, food, including a salsa bar, and a silent auction. Piñatas for adults and children will be available. 

Adult entry tickets are $50, children $25. It costs $10 for one minute of car smashing.

“Every swing of the sledgehammer fuels change for the Latinx community in Oregon’s North Coast,” said Elizabeth Aguilar of Consejo Hispano. “Together, we can acquire Casa Mariposa and break the cycles of inequity.”
