NEHALEM — The Lower Nehalem Community Trust, in partnership with Trailkeepers of Oregon, invites people to take part in a global movement commemorating 55 years of action on behalf of the planet.

Earth Day 2025 will be marked by a work party to battle the invasive Scotch broom. Maija Hecht, engagement coordinator with the trust, invites people to arrive at 1 p.m. and work until 4 p.m. April 27 at Elk Meadows Park in Nehalem.

To get to the location, drivers should turn south off U.S. Highway 101 onto Bayside Gardens Road, then take the last right turn onto Neptune Way. Park at the end of Neptune Way on the left adjacent to the park; parking surfaces are gravel, wood chip and grass.

Tools and gloves will be provided or people are welcome to bring their own. Those participating are advised to wear sturdy shoes and dress for variable coastal weather.

Hecht said the work party will be using hand tools such as loppers, pruning saws and shovels.

The park is owned by the city of Manzanita and the Lower Nehalem Trust provides stewardship with the help of the community. Organizers warn there are no restrooms.
