April 19 is the date set for a beach cleanup on the Long Beach Peninsula, scheduled to commemorate Earth Day. Efforts will take place at the Ocean Park Beach Approach, the Bolstad Beach Approach in Long Beach and the Seaview Beach Approach.

Volunteers are needed at each of the beaches to clean up marine debris and litter between 9:30 a.m. and noon. Members of the Grassroots Garbage Gang will help register volunteers. Washington State Parks is supporting the disposal of collected materials.

The North Coast Land Conservancy will host a similar operation from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 23. The second annual cleanup along the Neawanna Estuary will be held in conjunction with the city of Seaside, which will provide dumpsters. Volunteers will tidy up habitat reserves and public properties.

Those wishing to take part should meet at the Wahanna Ballfields on South Wahanna Road in Seaside at 10 a.m., where they will be briefed and split into small groups. Targeted spots may include the area behind the Seaside Cinema, the Mill Ponds and areas along Wahanna Road.

Those attending should plan to wear weather-appropriate clothes, boots and rain gear, and pack sunscreen, water and lunches. Disposable gloves and trash bags will be provided.
