U.S. Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, who represents Pacific County and other areas of southwest Washington, has launched an art competition for high school students who reside in the Third Congressional District.
Students in 9th through 12th grades are invited to submit a piece of original artwork. The winners will have their work displayed in the U.S. Capitol for a year and on a Congressional Art Competition website.
In addition, the first-place winner will win two paid round-trip plane tickets to a reception to celebrate the show on June 11. The deadline for submissions is April 28.
Submissions must be the work of a single student, no larger than 26 by 26 inches when framed, and original in concept, design and execution.
Paintings, drawings, collages, prints, photographs, and mixed media will be accepted, but artwork must not be computer-generated or use artificial intelligence.
Items may be dropped off at the two Congressional offices in Vancouver, Washington, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays or Kelso from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
