North Oregon Coast Symphony receives grant, plans concerts

- Hear music from The North Oregon Coast Symphony in Nehalem and Astoria this weekend.
SEASIDE — The North Oregon Coast Symphony will perform at two locations this weekend, at 3 p.m. Saturday at St. Catherine Episcopal Church in Nehalem and 3 p.m. Sunday at the Bob Chisholm Community Center in Seaside.
The symphony, a group of local musicians conducted by veteran music educator Cory Pederson, will perform “Zoo Song” by Gregory Smith, “Irlande” by Augusta Holmès and others.
Soloists Diane Amos, Len Bergman, Samantha Kushnick and Brayden Payne will be featured in a performance of “Selections from the Carnival of Animals” by Charles-Camille Saint-Saëns.
The symphony recently received a $3,000 arts and culture grant from the Fred W. Fields fund of the Oregon Community Foundation, intended to support operations, such as the cost of sheet music, advertising and venue fees.
Admission for both shows is $10 for adults and free for those 18 and under, available at the door. For more details, visit www.nocsymphony.org.
