Poet Frederick Livingston will give a reading 4 p.m. Sunday at Hoffman Center for the Arts.

MANZANITA — Frederick Livingston is hopeful that poetry can hold the power to heal.

The ecologist, educator and author will share ideas about writing and nature in a 4 p.m. Sunday talk at the Hoffman Center for the Arts, where he’ll read from his latest book, “Trees are Bridges to the Sky.”

Livingston’s other works include the poetry collection “The Moon and Other Fruits,” and work for scientific journals, literary magazines and public spaces.

Besides writing, he works on ecological restoration projects across the American West. His work in education has also taken him across the world, from the Peace Corps in Tanzania to the United Nations University for Peace in Costa Rica.

The Hoffman Center event will also include readings from other local poets. Admission is $7, and pre-registration is encouraged at www.hoffmanarts.org, but walk-ins are welcome.
