Lewis and Clark National Historical Park will offer several activities in connection with the Great Backyard Bird Count.

ASTORIA — This weekend at Fort Clatsop, borrow a pair of binoculars to participate in the Great Backyard Bird Count, an annual citizen science project that helps to track worldwide bird population changes.

Lewis and Clark National Historical Park will host birding activities to mark the event on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, including a scavenger hunt along the Netul River Trail and a display at the Fort Clatsop Visitor Center.

The Great Backyard Bird Count is a joint project of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, the National Audubon Society, Birds Canada and Wild Birds Unlimited.

During the four-day event, which begins Friday, identify and count wild birds anywhere for at least 15 minutes, then submit your findings online or through apps like eBird or Merlin Bird ID.

Park admission is $10 per adult, ages 16 and over, or free with the America the Beautiful pass or Oregon Pacific Coast Passport. For more details on the Great Backyard Bird Count, visit www.birdcount.org.
