Skamokawa Swamp Opera to perform in Naselle

The Skamokawa Swamp Opera will perform on Aug. 31. Members of the Wahkiakum County-based group are Andrew Emlen, Kyleen Austin, Wren Hendriks and Erik Friend.

NASELLE, Wash. — The Skamokawa Swamp Opera, a group of folk musicians from Wahkiakum County, will perform at the Naselle Community Center at 3 p.m. Sunday.

Presented by the Finnish American Folk Festival in cooperation with the center, the show will feature songs by and about people of the region, including arrangements of music from local songwriters Mary Garvey and Kerrie McNally.

The Skamokawa Swamp Opera is made up of Andrew Emlen on cello, guitar, mandocello and banjo, Kyleen Austin and Wren Hendricks on guitar and Erik Friend on percussion and mandolin — all contribute to vocals.
