Art, music and stormy weather

The annual Stormy Weather Arts Festival returns to Cannon Beach on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Last November, the Stormy Weather Arts Festival in Cannon Beach lived up to its name.

High waters rolled into Ecola Creek and heavy gusts blew sand onto storm windows. In bursts of rain, some took shelter under eaves. Others slipped into cedar-shingled galleries from passageways between Hemlock and Spruce streets.

As daylight hours grew shorter, they were drawn to the warmth of rooms filled with music and art.

This weekend, the festival returns with dozens of events, as galleries across town invite artists for exhibit openings, wine receptions and craft demonstrations.

At Shearwater Studio & Gallery, Drea Frost will arrange small bites and show new work, including a linocut piece that was selected for this year’s festival poster. Nearby Northwest by Northwest and White Bird galleries will host exhibiting sculptors, painters and photographers.

Glass demonstrations will follow breakfast at Icefire Glassworks. Workshops will be held at the Cannon Beach Chamber of Commerce. Buskers will play in the squares and evenings will close with piano and nature films at the Cannon Beach Community Church and a lively concert at the Coaster Theatre Playhouse.

As for the forecast this time, there could be sun.
