Yes, in our lives, breakfast is a favorite. I cooked many over 40 years at my former business, the Shelburne Inn in Seaview, collecting wild mushrooms, smoking salmon and gathering wild plants from the Willapa shores.
Quality ingredients — right down to the cheeses we used — were of the utmost importance. We poured lavish attention into creating soft, fluffy eggs, omelets and frittatas. The quest for fine food should certainly include breakfast.
I find that appetite for good food has inundated the Pacific Northwest, and the Breakfast Club, recently opened in Seaview, is no exception. And here, a huge menu spikes guests’ expectations.
The Breakfast Club offers its own brand of breakfast, everything from eggs benedict to a large fruit bowl, and gluten-free options.
It’s in a good neighborhood. Across the street, Blaine Walker serves up another variety of cuisine at the 42nd Street Cafe and Bistro, certainly one of the better breakfasts in our corner of the world. Homemade jams and corn relish — little touches make a big difference.
We have several choices in Seaview, even another recent addition, Seaview Biscuit Co., which specializes in comfort food entrees centered around their flaky baked goods.
The menu is all-encompassing and the atmosphere is comfortable. If you want two eggs and bacon, toast and marmalade, you can get it here. Or you might score on a tall stack of pancakes, with, of course, a fried egg on the side. Nice thick bacon or ham are welcome additions. And that is just the beginning. The staff is happy to attend to your needs and desires.
Little touches: a garnish of a handful of blueberries and a ripe red strawberry top off the French toast. And the omelets, large and soft and filled with loads of delectables, just hit the spot.
My friend Jim, a tall man with a big appetite, even took some of his home. The size of the servings is impressive. Top it all off with several cups of coffee.
This is hometown fare. That is to say that the menu is ample and consistent, and the servings tasty.
Nobody is rushing you here, at least not on this overcast morning when I wished to shoot the breeze with an old friend. I ordered the Mexi scramble, eating savory bites between exchanges of poetry with Jim, and was pleased.
My friend went for the Denver omelet. He was pleased.
The building itself is quite handsome. Remodeled outside in a frontier-era theme, the building pulls you in like a sailing ship lost in the fog. A 19th-century pot-bellied stove sits on a dais and projects the warmth of older times.
Come to Seaview, please. Come for breakfast and afterward, walk the beach. Here at the south end of the peninsula, the vista is stunning.
