This weekend’s calendar is full of events to enjoy throughout the region.

To start off the weekend, businesses in downtown Astoria are participating in the first AstoriUS Day, happening throughout the day Friday. Businesses will host a variety of special events and sales — including a magic show, artist demonstrations and live music. Later in the evening, KALA will host author Alan E. Rose for a discussion on his novel “As If Death Summoned,” which is about the impact of AIDS.

Another Astoria event happening will be the Missoula Children’s Theatre Saturday performance. The show will feature local children who spent the past week learning about how to put together a theater show under the Missoula group.

On Saturday and Sunday, the Long Beach Peninsula will delve into the region’s past for its annual Clamshell Railroad Days event, hosted by the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum. The event will feature model railroads and the chance to board a historical passenger train. Later in the evening Saturday, the Sou’wester will host musician Joshua Thomas for a live concert.

Just south of the peninsula will be a live reenactment of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, held at the Knappton Cove Heritage Center on Saturday and Sunday.

In Seaside on Saturday, an ultimate frisbee tournament will be held on the beach. The tournament will be held near the Seaside Promenade.

In Cannon Beach, the Coaster Theatre Playhouse will host public performances on Friday and Saturday — both of which will continue weekly throughout early September. Friday’s show is Shakespeare-themed, while Saturday’s is a murder mystery.

Other notable events include Clatsop CASA’s virtual benefit raffle; regional farmers’ markets; and gallery exhibitions at Trail’s End Art Association Gallery, the Sou’wester, Cannon Beach Gallery, Hoffman Center for the Arts, plus other regional galleries.
