The exhibit, “Pᵸot-Choch,” is the Chinook word for “Fort George.” The exhibit’s title was chosen with guidance from Tony Johnson, chairman of the Chinook Indian Nation. Pieces were curated by Steph Littlebird.
The exhibit will be displayed through summer and features an all-Indigenous collection of traditional and contemporary art, including carving, weaving, beadwork, painting and photography. The exhibit honors the original inhabitants of the North Coast, the Chinook.
The gallery will be open from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and by appointment. Funding for the project came from a Precipice Grant applied for by Liz Harris and Patricia Vázquez Gómez. The exhibition debuts a new wooden floor made possible by additional funding from the Ford Foundation.
