Finnish play available to watch online

- Astor Street Opry Company is hosting a Finnish play for viewers to watch online.
ASTORIA — Astor Street Opry Company and the Astoria Scandinavian Midsummer Festival Association will present a virtual reader’s theater production Tuesday through June 30. The play is available to view for free starting at 5 p.m. on Tuesday at bit.ly/3uLLfmI

The show, “Love and Politics,” is a one-act play written by A.T. and published in 1906 in Finland. The vintage piece was found in the attic of Suomi Hall and translated by Sirpa Duoos. Actors recorded a performance at Suomi Hall, directed by ChrisLynn Taylor.
The play tells the tale of Mr. Ketonen, a widower, who wants his daughter to marry his best friend. Hilda, the daughter, doesn’t want to marry her father’s friend because she is in love with a local socialist leader, even though her father hates socialists.
