CANNON BEACH — Northwest by Northwest Gallery will feature new work by five artists during the 2015 Stormy Weather Arts festival, Nov. 6 to 8, including sculptor Georgia Gerber and fine art photographer Christopher Burkett.
Gerber’s expressionistic and distinctive bronze sculpture defines many favorite public gathering places, such as “Rachel the Pig” at Pike Place Market in Seattle, 26 wildlife sculptures in downtown Portland’s Pioneer Courthouse Square, and tufted puffings created for Cannon Beach. The artist has her own foundry and creates fine bronze sculptures.
She will share images of the foundry process with the public from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6 during the arts festival at the gallery. The reception includes wine from Sineann Winery. Gerber will also speak at 4 p.m. Saturday.
Oregon artist and renowned fine art photographer Burkett has added two new major museum collections to his list: Houston Fine Arts and Nelson Atkins Museum in Kansas City. Burkett creates luminous landscapes and abstractions in nature photos. He will give a presentation at noon Saturday, Nov. 7
Other artists featured include oil painter Jeff White, sculptor Ivan McLean and sculptor Carlos Acevedo.
Jeff White paints the splendor of the Northwest on large colorful canvases with clouds and robust romantic color, capturing the ethereal and atmospheric light of our region. He will talk color theory and unveil new paintings at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7.
Local artist Hazel Schlesinger’s paintings travel the world in movies, TV series and television commercials. She paints en plein air, out in the world and in Cannon Beach, capturing abstractions of the natural world. Her paintings have been featured in Southwest Art Magazine. She will speak at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Carlos Acevedo is a new contemporary bronze sculptor at the gallery. His patina knowledge allows him to express his passion and vision for the medium. He will speak at 11 a.m. Saturday.
