Plum pudding ushers in the holiday season at the Flavel House

The Capt. George Flavel House Museum hosts a free plum pudding cooking demonstration by local Astoria resident and historian Rae Goforth Saturday, Nov. 18. Goforth will show visitors all the secrets and tricks of the trade when it comes to making plum pudding. She will even share her personal recipe, and samples fresh from the oven will be available to share.
According to Victorian author Satenig S. St. Marie, “Plum Pudding was believed to have magical powers including the ability to make peace. A husband and wife who had had a misunderstanding would be reconciled by the moral influence of the pudding while they were stirring it.”
The demonstrations will be held at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free, but reservations are required, as space is limited. All those attending will be invited to do some Christmas shopping in the Carriage House gift shop with a discount coupon good on purchases that day only after the demonstration.
