FilmZone

Coast Weekend has a new forum for talking cinema. FilmZone goes beyond the concept of one writer/one review/one movie per week. We’ll offer a theme, and we want your input: Give us your advice on films we should see, spread the warning about flicks to never see, ask questions and share your comments! Posting is easy – just use the form at the bottom of the page.

Talk to anyone within five years of your own age, and I’ll bet you share a love of some of the same movies.

And I’m not talking Oscar-winners, either. Ever since motion pictures became a defining aspect of American culture, people have identified with the figures on the screen. When they strike a chord, whether it’s dramatic, funny, whimsical or horrifying, that film stays with you.

I’ll list some of the films that hold a special place in my psyche from my “coming of age” years, and you see if you can guess how old I am:

“Better Off Dead”

“Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”

“Little Shop of Horrors” (the musical version)

“Aliens”

“Back to the Future”

“The Princess Bride”

“Die Hard”

“The Terminator”
