There will be a Community Beach Cleanup at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, July 5. As part of a fireworks-free Independence Day celebration, the city’s Haystack Rock Awareness Program will have a seabird watching event Thursday, July 3, through Sunday, July 6. Spotting scopes will be set up on the beach near Haystack Rock from 7 a.m. to noon each day. There will be interpretive programs at 9, 10 and 11 a.m. Friday and Saturday. There will be ongoing intertidal tours from 7:30 to 9 a.m. each day.

This will be a Ceramics Camp in the center’s fully-equipped ceramics lab from 9 a.m. to noon, Monday, July 7, through Friday, July 11, for 6- to 12-year-olds. Darren Gooch, the center’s ceramic teacher, will teach the three basic techniques for hand-built pottery in a week of hands-on classes. All clay and materials are included in the camp’s cost. Pre-register for the camp at Sunset Pool or at the Community Center at any time up to the day of the program. Cost is $75 for the week, or $20 per day for drop-ins, space permitting. Limited to 12 students.
