SEASIDE — A History & Hops lecture from the Seaside Museum & Historical Society will introduce “A Brief History of Seaside’s Water Department,” as told by administrative assistant Emily Halverson.

The free 6 p.m. presentation on Jan. 30 at Seaside Brewing Co. will cover Seaside’s first water system, built in 1904 at a time when many in the town still lacked access to indoor plumbing.

Halverson will draw on history compiled by Benny T. Davis and excerpts from the Seaside Signal, and will also touch on the Seaside Fire of 1912.

Halverson, who has been the museum’s administrative assistant since 2022, became interested in the water department after stating that the “restroom at the museum is too big and empty, there should be an exhibit in there.”

While the museum is still working on getting a bathroom exhibit put together, she is looking forward to sharing many interesting facts about the early plumbing, or lack thereof, in Seaside.
