“Moonlit Departure” by Gregory Gorham.

ASTORIA — Astoria Visual Arts and the Cannery Pier Hotel & Spa have announced Gregory Gorham as the winner of a third annual award honoring regional artists.

Chosen to represent this year’s theme, “Coastal Colors,” Gorham’s oil painting “Moonlit Departure” was purchased by the hotel for its permanent collection. It will be displayed in the lobby beginning in December.

Born and raised in Michigan, Gorham grew up around water and now draws inspiration from the Columbia-Pacific region’s fishing communities.

A painter, printmaker and illustrator, his artwork often features harbors, vessels and marshes in vibrant colors. His work can also be found at the Marie Powell Gallery in Ilwaco.
