Water Music Society stages Music in the Gardens

- This Ocean Park home is one of a half-dozen yards to be featured for the Music in the Gardens tour.
The Water Music Society’s leaders have their fingers crossed for good weather on Saturday.
That’s the date set for the annual Music in the Gardens Tour, although it will go ahead “rain or shine.”
The event has been a fixture of the group’s fundraising efforts since 2005, allowing residents and visitors to sample what the group has called, “the lush and enchanting landscapes that are native to our coastal climate.”
Tickets are being sold, giving supporters a list of six gardens for a self-guided tour to be accomplished within six hours.
This year’s event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Local musicians appear at the outdoor settings, allowing those participating to be serenaded while admiring the flowers and landscaping.
Nancy Allen, one of the organizers, is hoping for a good turnout.
“Water Music Society board members are in the gardens on tour day, meeting, greeting and supporting tour guests,” Allen said. “The garden tour is truly a happy fundraising event for our organization.”
The event raises money for the society’s three annual musical events.
They are Jazz and Oysters, an outdoor festival on Aug. 10 at the Port of Peninsula at Nahcotta, featuring Patrick Lamb, Pearl Django and the Ilwaco High School Jazz Band; The Water Music Festival concert on Oct. 19 at the Chinook Event Center, featuring the Dan Brubeck Quartet; and a Christmas concert on Dec. 8 at Chinook, featuring vocalist Jalie Loren and the Ilwaco High School Jazz Band.
The society was formed in 1984 and has supported Ocean Beach and Naselle school district music and arts programs since 2013. In March, during an Astoria concert featuring Ilwaco High School music groups, leaders were presented with the Washington State Music Teachers Association’s Friend of Music award for their support.
Adult admission is $20, tickets can be purchased online or in-person with cash or check at The Basketcase Greenhouse in Long Beach, the Bay Avenue Gallery in Ocean Park, or Nansen Florals in Seaview.
Donations to the group may be made when ordering a ticket online. Just before the event, leaders plan to post updates on musicians, artists and raffle prizes featured in this year’s gardens on the Music in the Gardens Facebook page.
