CANNON BEACH — Northwest By Northwest Gallery is celebrating 38 years in Cannon Beach.
Georgia Gerber, a bronze sculptor, is known for the Seattle Market’s Pike Place Pig. In Cannon Beach, she created work showcasing the community’s mascot, the Tufted Puffins.
A new exhibition of Gerber’s work will be shared May 2 and 3 at the Cannon Beach Spring Unveiling, a giant celebration of artwork that encompasses 11 galleries.
Gerber’s new sculptures include a “Rounded Rabbit” and “Sphere with a Mama and Baby Whale.”
The Northwest By Northwest Gallery’s garden at 232 N. Spruce St. features local contemporary metal sculptor Ivan McLean with a Red Sphere. His work can be seen at the World Trade Center in Los Angeles and at his alma mater, California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo. When he graduated about 25 years ago, he was asked to create six 20-foot spheres for the campus.
The gallery represents Don Stastny of Cannon Beach and showcases his “Narrative/Figurative Bronze Sculpture.” Stastny was the architect for the Warm Springs Museum and the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort and celebrates the Geologic History of Oregon.
It also features Dave Haslett’s large granite “Whale Fin,” surreal narrative paintings by Kent Suter and “Imaginary Neighborhoods” by Laura O’Brien, whose work is said to capture the dreamlike quality of Marc Chagall.
Also featured is Northwest landscape artwork by Hazel Schlesinger including “Clouds,” an oil on canvas. She draws on impressionist styles and has won numerous plein air paint out competitions in Cannon Beach. She will be in the gallery during the weekend. Her work has been published in SW Art Magazine and her paintings can be seen in movies and TV series.
The gallery is awash with talent. Angelita Surmon is a glass artist and noted painter. Mathew Stern is a blown glass artist, teaching at Penland School of Art and Craft in North Carolina. Dave Haslett’s granite stone sculpture “Orca Fin” is a signature work that welcomes visitors. And new painter Emmaly Marie’s oil paintings celebrate the natural world.
Also, there will be music in the gallery 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. May 3.
