- Patrick Webb People from all over the region come to Ilwaco for the summer Saturday Markets.
The Port of Ilwaco will be busy May 3. Ilwaco Saturday Market’s season-opening day begins at 10 a.m. The waterfront at the Port of Ilwaco will feature vendors, art, hand-crafted items and food until 4 p.m. and every Saturday afterward until Sept. 27. Games are available to occupy children while adults peruse the booths.
Organizers say the Ilwaco Children’s Parade will feature kids of all ages showcasing creativity and community spirit. The theme is patriotic.
A registration booth for entries will be set up in the parking lot by Coho Charters at 237 Howerton from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Children may participate free; adults are asked for a suggested donation of $10 for individuals and $20 for groups.
The parade will start at noon going west along Howerton Way to First Street downtown then end at First and Lake streets. There will be awards for best bike, wagon, pet, theme and most patriotic.
Events are organized by the Ilwaco Merchants Association, whose president, Jenna Austin, noted, “Whether you’re marching in costume, riding decorated bikes or simply cheering from the sidelines, this parade is a celebration of joy, imagination and local pride.”
The other event is the annual Blessing of the Fleet, which features a boat procession at 2:30 p.m. organized by the Ilwaco Charter Association and a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter dropping a wreath.
