Ten Fifteen audience favorite heads to regional competition

The audiences have spoken. A vote from those attending the three weeks of “One-Act Wonders” at the Ten Fifteen Theater has selected “Conflict” by Wade Bradford as their favorite.

It was directed by Deborah Jensen, who has acted in three shows at the Astoria theater and was directing there for the first time.

The play will be repeated 3:30 p.m. March 1 at the theater on Commercial Street. Tickets are $20.

Afterward, there will be a reception to celebrate all three of the one-act shows, which concluded Feb. 8.

The show is heading to a regional competition through the American Association of Community Theater. Two representatives will attend the Astoria performance and offer comments on the production’s acting, character interpretation, pace and technical elements.

“Audience members will be able to observe the feedback process, which is fascinating if you’re at all interested in how theater is made,” said Danyelle Tinker, executive artistic director at the Ten Fifteen.

The association holds a national festival every other year. Productions will be staged at a regional event in Boise, Idaho, in late March with the winners advancing to the group’s national contest at Des Moines, Iowa, in June.

Proceeds from the March 1 performance in Astoria will help pay travel costs to Boise.

“Conflict” has been described as “a very amusing explanation of how we crave stories in which the protagonist experiences all kinds of hardship.” The cast features Dylan Disch, Jaime Britton, Max Chase, Sara Spangler, Cyndi Fisher and John Hoff. The absurdist comedy highlights how the others react to Britton’s character’s behavior, including her fixation with a cantaloupe.

They formed an ensemble with Simon Caron and Deac Guidi to play the roles in all three Ten Fifteen one-act shows. Directing the other two performances were Karen Bain and Ryan Hull.
