ASTORIA — Orquestra Pacifico Tropical, a Portland-based band with deep roots in Latin music, is performing at the Liberty Theatre 7 p.m. Feb. 8.

Founded by drummer David “Papi” Fimbres, the band is heavily influenced by the music of his childhood. It is grounded in 1950s through 1970s cumbia, a folk music genre with origins in Colombia, Peru and Mexico, distinguished by its signature double beat.

These classic rhythms are brought together with original compositions, for a new twist that brings together band members’ diverse influences.

Orquestra Pacifico Tropical’s performances are known for their hypnotically rhythmic sound that gets audiences dancing, making every show a celebration.

This event is supported in part by the Moreland Family Foundation. Reserved seating is priced between $10 and $27. To purchase tickets, go to www.libertyastoria.org.
