NEHALEM — On Feb. 8, the Nehalem Valley Historical Society will present “Oregon’s Black History: 450 Years in 45 Minutes,” featuring Zachary Stocks, executive director of Oregon Black Pioneers.

In the 3:30 p.m. presentation at the North County Recreation District Performing Arts Center, Stocks will trace the history of people of African descent who have lived and worked in Oregon for centuries.

Popular historical narratives often exclude the presence of Black Oregonians before the mid-20th century. This presentation will cover how legal and social marginalization has led to that erasure and how it continues to impact disparities in housing access, community investment and policing.

Admission for the presentation is $10 at the door, benefiting Nehalem Valley Historical Society education programs. For more about the work of Oregon Black Pioneers and to view online exhibits, visit www.oregonblackpioneers.org.
