SEASIDE — The North Coast Land Conservancy is offering a seaweed cyanotype workshop from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 25 at its Circle Creek Conservation Center.

Alanna Kieffer, a marine biologist, seaweed farmer and owner of Shifting Tides, which offers tide pooling and foraging workshops on the North Coast, will lead the three-hour workshop with Sam Block, a woodworker and owner of Block Studio in Cannon Beach.

Participants will use a collection of pressed seaweeds to create four or five cyanotypes each. A cyanotype, its name taken from the hue cyan, is a photographic blueprint made through a chemical reaction between ultraviolet light and chemically coated paper.

Cyanotypes have been a form of scientific documentation for seaweed, terrestrial plants, and natural specimens for centuries and are one of the earliest forms of photographic printing.

This is a free workshop, with 10 seats available. Participants are encouraged to bring lunch or snacks. To register, visit www.nclctrust.org.
