ASTORIA — Musical Storytime, a hands-on activity for preschoolers, will be offered twice, at 10 a.m. Jan. 13 at the North Tillamook Library in Manzanita and again at 10 a.m. Jan. 16 in the Kids Make Theatre classroom at the Liberty Theatre.

The free readings, for children ages 3 to 5, will feature live flute accompaniment by North Oregon Coast Symphony musician Shelley Loring Barker. The story is “Owl Babies,” a tale of three owlets authored by Martin Waddell and illustrated by Patrick Benson.

After the reading, children will be able to play a wind instrument and will get the chance to learn more about the flute and piccolo as Loring Barker demonstrates her instruments.

Similar events are being planned monthly in a partnership between The North Oregon Coast Symphony, North Tillamook Library and Astoria Library. For more information, visit the symphony’s website www.nocsymphony.org.
