Symphony plans ‘Grand Openings’ for new season

The North Oregon Coast Symphony will begin its 2024-2025 season with two shows, at St. Catherine Episcopal Church in Nehalem 3 p.m. Saturday and at the Charlene Larsen Center for the Performing Arts in Astoria 3 p.m. Sunday.
Titled “Grand Openings,” the two concerts will include classical pieces intended as preludes to larger works such as operas, including Dvorak’s “Hussite Overture,” Rossini’s “La Gazza Ladra Overture” and “Poet and Peasant Overture” by Franz von Suppe.
Dylan Morrow, a senior at Astoria High School, will be the soloist for the first movement of Edward Elgar’s Cello Concerto, Op. 85.
Admission for both concerts is $10 for adults and free for ages 18 and under. Tickets for the show in Astoria are available online at www.partnersforthepac.org. Tickets for the Nehalem show will be sold at the door only.
