ASTORIA — The North Coast Symphonic Band will enter its 45th season with “A Fantastic Voyage: Music for River, Sea, and Space” 2 p.m. Sunday at the Liberty Theatre.
The band will follow conductor Terry Dahlgren’s lead on a journey to the Hudson River, the high seas, and “where no one has gone before” in a medley that includes a ride on the USS Enterprise.
Doors open at 1 p.m. and the Astoria Tuba Quartet will provide prelude music starting at 1:30 p.m.
Audiences are encouraged to purchase advance tickets for $15 from the Liberty Theatre website or at the box office from 2 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays. Day-of tickets are $20. High school students are admitted free, younger kids are free with an adult.
For musicians, most sections of the band are now full, but clarinets are needed. Potential new members should read music, bring instruments and have advanced high school-level performance skills or higher.
Rehearsals are from 7 to 9 p.m. Mondays at the Charlene Larsen Center for the Performing Arts in Astoria. Musicians interested in joining should email personnel director Lee Stromquist at encore1@charter.net.
The band performs four concerts each year at the Liberty Theatre. Upcoming performances will be held Feb. 2, April 13 and July 3. For information, call 503-298-1087 or visit www.northcoastsymphonicband.org.
