ASTORIA — This week at the Ten Fifteen Theater, a staged reading presented by the Writers for Democratic Action will reprise an adaption of Sinclair Lewis’ 1935 dystopian political novel “It Can’t Happen Here.”

In 1936, a staged version of the novel opened in 21 theaters across 17 states on Oct. 27, one week before that year’s presidential election.

The reading at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, “It Can’t Happen Here — Again,” is “a call to action now, in 2024,” according to an event description. Tickets are free, but online reservations are encouraged.

Also at the Ten Fifteen this week, magician Seth Howard will appear in “An Evening Among Spirits” at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Howard has been performing across the Pacific Northwest for more than 20 years. This show will raise funds for a stage lighting upgrade at the Astoria venue. General admission tickets are $20, available at www.thetenfifteentheater.com.
