The 22nd annual Pacific Northwest Brew Cup was held Sept. 20 and 21 in Astoria, with Coast Weekend sponsoring a People's Choice vote.

At last week’s Pacific Northwest Brew Cup in Astoria, Coast Weekend readers chose from more than 30 regional beer varieties to determine the winners of six People’s Choice Awards.

People weighed tough choices over two days of samples, including selections from breweries and cideries in Astoria, Seaside and on the Washington side of the river in Ilwaco.

The 2024 winners were

• Brain Glow Double IPA, by Ruse Brewing of Portland, for best India pale ale or American pale ale

• Overcast Espresso Stout, from Portland’s Oakshire Brewing, as best specialty ale or dark beer

• Honey Orange Lager, by Sisu Brewing Co. in Seaside, the best blonde or lager

• Senke Northern German Pilsner, from Portland’s ForeLand Beer Co., as best pilsner

• Springrider Cran Semi-Sweet Cider, made by Ilwaco Cider Co., for best cider or sour

• Cucumber Mint, by Happy Mountain Kombucha, as the best soda or kombucha

Watch for a call to send in nominations for the 2024 Coast Weekend Readers’ Choice Awards, returning in January 2025. The annual contest honors the Columbia-Pacific region’s best in dining, arts, shopping and the outdoors.
