ASTORIA — Damien Jurado, a Seattle singer-songwriter who has built a multi-decade career around simple, acoustic music, will play a 7 p.m. Monday concert at Astoria’s Anita Building, with an opening set by Lilly Miller.
Jurado began his solo career recording on cassettes in the mid-1990s. Since then, he has released more than 20 albums, on Sub Pop Records and Secretly Canadian before launching his own label, Maraqopa Records.
He found his way onto the Billboard charts with the Richard Swift-produced Maraqopa album trilogy in the mid-2010s.
Jurado’s influences range from great songwriters like Bob Dylan, Neil Young and Randy Newman, to short story writer Raymond Carver, who has roots on the Columbia River.
Miller, a folk musician based in Seattle, has been at work on her first EP, titled “The Fool.” Influenced by Joni Mitchell and the melodic tones of Nick Drake, her songs are known for their tenderness and deep feelings.
