CLATSKANIE — Cellist Gideon Freudmann is kicking off the Clatskanie Arts Commission’s 35th performance season 3 p.m. Sunday with a live soundtrack to a silent film at the Birkenfeld Theater.

Freudmann will follow Buster Keaton’s 1924 silent comedy film “Sherlock, Jr.” with a roster of jazz, classical, modern and blues music.

In the movie, Keaton stars as a film projectionist who moonlights as an amateur detective. After his fiancee is robbed and he’s blamed for the heist, he falls asleep in a movie theater, where he dreams of being Sherlock Holmes.

An international performer, Freudmann has toured extensively and his work has been featured in television shows and movies. His set is expected to last just under an hour.

The Birkenfeld Theater performance season continues Oct. 13 with a performance by the Oregon Symphonic Band, followed by Celtic music from Men of Worth Dec. 7, Piano Heist on Jan. 25, magician Louie Foxx Feb. 23 and country singer Trevor Panczak April 5.
