ASTORIA — Lifelike wooden sculptures of birds, fish and other wildlife will be displayed over the weekend at the Clatsop County Fairgrounds in the 35th annual Columbia Flyway Wildlife Show.

The carving show and competition continues Friday through Sunday, with public viewing hours from noon to 6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

There are 20 competitive divisions featuring an array of hand-carved, textured and painted sculptures, and category titles like “Decorative Puddle Ducks,” “Chunky Songbird,” and “Future Antiques.”

Leonard Rousseau is the show’s featured artist for 2024. A wildlife carver with a deep passion for nature, Rousseau has honed techniques over many years to create pieces honored for their realism, artistic expression and meticulous craftsmanship.

Rousseau will lead a seminar on clay modeling at the fairgrounds, starting at 2 p.m. Saturday. Other classes and seminars include a fish carving roundtable, introduction to chainsaw carving and a “cowboy bottle stopper class,” offered at 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning by carver Terry Moss.

There will also be a water tank display for decoys, and among the weekend’s competitions is an International Working Decoy Championship.

Admission and parking for the show are free. For a full schedule of events, go to www.columbiaflywaywildlifeshow.com.
