ASTORIA — The Liberty Theatre will host Fran Lebowitz for a show of humor and cultural criticism, and a conversation with Chinook Observer editor Matt Winters, at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Lebowitz, known for her social commentary about American life, worked odd jobs such as taxi driving, belt peddling and apartment cleaning before being hired by Andy Warhol as a columnist for Interview Magazine.

Her first book of essays, “Metropolitan Life,” was published in 1978, followed by another, “Social Studies,” in 1981. Both books were later combined into the collection “The Fran Lebowitz Reader.”

Lebowitz is also a regular guest on late-night talk shows, has played a judge on “Law & Order” and was recently the subject of the 2021 Netflix documentary series, “Pretend It’s a City,” directed by Martin Scorsese.

“Her essays and interviews offer her acerbic views on current events and the media — as well as pet peeves including tourists, baggage-claim areas, after-shave lotion, adults who roller skate, children who speak French, or anyone who is unduly tan,” the Liberty writes in a description of the show. “Her writing — pointed, taut and economical — is equally forthright, irascible and unapologetically opinionated.”

Tickets range from $29 to $49 for reserved seating, available at www.libertyastoria.org. Doors open at 6 p.m.
