The festival will be held at Cope’s Park between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday.

CLATSKANIE — Nootka rose, Turkish giant, Spanish roja, Jacob’s purple, Italian Late and Lithuanian Purple. These and many other varieties of garlic from around the world will abound at Cope’s Park during the Clatskanie Garlic Festival, returning from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

The festival, which is being hosted for a ninth season by the seasonal Clatskanie Farmers Market, saw more than 2,000 visitors last year.

It will feature several garlic growers from Clatskanie and others from White Salmon, Washington, and as far south as Eugene.

Bulbs, some sweet and others spicy, will be in stock for backyard gardeners. Some have a shelf life of up to a year. Others are sweet enough for dessert and will lend themselves to garlic ice cream.

There will also be jazz music at the festival from The Lorna Baxter Septet and a “Libations Garden” featuring locally-produced ales, distilled drinks and nonalcoholic carbonated jun — similar to kombucha but sweetened with honey.

The Clatskanie Farmers Market continues between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturdays through

The farmer collective organizing the market also offers classes, events, a community garden and a year-round food hub. For more information, visit www.clatskaniefarmercollective.org.
