CANNON BEACH — “Be Still,” a watercolor painting by Cannon Beach artist Jeffrey Hull, won the Best of Show award in the Maritime Art Exhibition, a juried selection of art on display at the Coos Art Museum in Coos Bay.
The exhibition, now in its 30th year, is the oldest continuous maritime art competition on the West Coast, with work by maritime artists from across the United States. Hull’s painting will be displayed at the museum as part of the collection through Sept. 22.
Hull has been painting for over five decades. In 1987, he opened his own space, the Jeffrey Hull Gallery, at Sandpiper Square in downtown Cannon Beach.
His signature works are seascapes with wind-sculpted trees, crashing waves and rugged cliffs layered in coastal mist. Primarily self-taught, Hull has painted over 2,500 original works in his career.
His work has earned several previous accolades at the Maritime Art Exhibition over the years and he was a featured artist at the 25th annual event.
