Two Astoria galas this weekend are celebrating Pride with performances by contestants from the reality show “RuPaul’s Drag Race.”

At the Liberty Theatre, a Pride gala organized by the Lower Columbia Q Center at 8 p.m. Friday welcomes Brooke Lynn Hytes, a contestant from the show’s 11th season, who will be joined by a group of local drag performers and other community members for an evening fundraiser.

Ticket sales from the Liberty Theatre event will support the Q Center’s programs, which include weekly peer support, groups for families and young adults, emergency financial support and assistance for gender-affirming care.

On Saturday, a “Pride Gayla” at the Charlene Larsen Center for the Performing Arts features Mariah Paris Balenciaga, a “RuPaul’s Drag Race” season 3 contestant, and Jasmine Diane Masters, who appeared in season 7 of the show. The event starts at 8:30 p.m. after a 6:30 p.m. “Cocktail with the Queens” reception.

The Saturday gala is being organized by the Astoria nonprofit North Coast Pride, doing business as Astoria Pride, which is also planning a pub crawl, parade and brunch over the weekend.

According to the group’s Facebook page, the pub crawl begins with a 5 p.m. Friday meetup at Fulio’s before a bus tour heading to Seaside and back to Astoria.

The Pride parade begins at 11 a.m. Saturday. The parade route starts at Third Street and follows the Astoria Riverwalk to the Barbey Maritime Center, where a Pride in the Park celebration continues until 4 p.m. with live music, food and games.

Brunch is served at noon Sunday with performances, raffles and giveaways at the Merry Time Bar & Grill, where guests are invited to wear their best Pride gear.

Other events being organized by the Lower Columbia Q Center include an indoor block party and vendor market at the Astoria Armory starting at 11 a.m. Saturday. and a 2 p.m. Sunday program on queer maritime history with the Columbia River Maritime Museum at Fort George Brewery.

Later in the month, the Q Center will also team up with Fort George for a benefit night on June 25 and organize a Pride march on June 30.

The group’s regular activities include a monthly queer book club, educators’ affinity group, family game night, a gender-affirming clothing closet, support groups and drop-in hours between noon and 4 p.m. Thursdays.
