Seaside art for May: Student work, moon jars, quilted paintings

The Seaside First Saturday Art Walk returns from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday in the historic Gilbert District. This is a free event with dedicated parking for the District at Holladay Drive and Oceanway Street.

Crafted in Seaside, 530 Broadway
This location features a studio that allows people to turn photos or designs into keepsake items and will show handmade items by local artists.

Opening with an artist reception for “Strokes of Genius,” an exhibition featuring Zifen Qian, an artist and professor.
Also, the gallery will introduce moon jar artist Hui Yong Kim, who creates glazing techniques that mimic planetary movements, and Barbara Paanakker, an abstract artist who uses metal, paper, and organic materials, such as eggshells. Live music will be offered by Chelsea LaFey and John Orr.

Featuring original, framed vintage oil canvas prints by Portland artist R. Dumas, who captures oil paintings in subtle colors and fine textures.
Rooted Art Gallery, 810 Broadway
This gallery will offer a vendor fair during the art walk and showcase several local artists’ work. Also taking applications to art classes on specific art topics or mediums.
Featured is the work of cousins and gallery owners Erin Paysse and Alysia Love, who have both been artists for life and began making art collaboratively in 2021.
Seaside Public Library, 1131 Broadway
In its first showing during the Seaside Art Walk, the Seaside Public Library will feature artwork by Seaside High School students. Art and social studies teacher Joel Dierickx has selected art from between 16 and 20 students to display.
SunRose Gallery, 606 Broadway
This gallery will feature wearable art by Charlotte Bruhn, dolls by Seaside artist Jan Barber and quilted paintings by Ronni Harris. Light appetizers will be served, accompanied by live music from the Beat Greens.
TigerLily Gallery, 613 Broadway
Featuring the art of Mark Kenny, known as a triple threat in the local art scene as an artist and sculptor who works in many mediums. Kenny will show an original bronze titled “End of the Day,” a salute to our local logging history. There will be some wood-carved pieces, including the whimsical “Octopus Bench,” and some ocean-themed paintings.
