MANZANITA — Author Mark Pomeroy will read from his new novel “The Tigers of Lents” at Hoffman Center for the Arts during a 7:30 p.m. Friday event.

Pomeroy’s novel explores class and family ties through the story of the Garrison family, circa 2010 in the outer Portland neighborhood of Lents.

Three sisters navigate ambitions against growing up in poverty, while their mother works as a grocery store cashier and their estranged father hopes to reconnect after being released from prison.

Pomeroy lives in Portland and is also the author of “The Brightwood Stillness,” which was published in 2014.

He has received an Oregon Literary Fellowship for fiction, and his short stories, poems and essays have appeared in several publications. For the past 28 years, he has also led creative writing workshops in Portland schools.

Admission for the reading is $7, pre-registration is encouraged. For more details, visit www.hoffmanarts.org.
