Mystery, comedy combine

in ‘Death by Design’

CANNON BEACH — “Death by Design,” a murder mystery that weaves in comic antics, will be staged at the Coaster Theatre Playhouse beginning Friday.

Shows run at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday through April 13, with one Thursday show on April 4 offering pay-what-you-will admission.

A 3 p.m. matinee on March 24 will be followed by a Q&A session with playwright Rob Urbinati and director Deanna Duplechain.

The two will discuss the play’s origins and production.

The event is included with admission to the matinee show.

“Death by Design” is set in 1932, when playwright Edward Bennett and his wife, actress Sorel Bennett, flee London for the English countryside after a disastrous opening night.

They soon meet unexpected guests, including various politicians and a zany modern dancer, and a mystery ensues.

Tickets are $25 to $30, available online or at the theater box office. For more details, visit www.coastertheatre.com.
