Waves roll into Cannon Beach during blue hour at Ecola State Park.

Spending time in this place of many forests and waters is enough to inspire even those who don’t consider themselves writers to try a hand at poetry.

The past few weeks have brought many poets to the region, for Astoria’s FisherPoets Gathering weekend and more recently for Forest Poets, a gathering of local authors organized by North Coast Communities for Watershed Protection.

Now, readers, it’s your turn. Through April 15, send between one and three poems to Coast Weekend that capture life in the Columbia-Pacific region, especially those related to this time of year as winter turns to spring.

Poems will be accepted by email at editor@discoverourcoast.com or by mail to The Astorian, PO Box 210, Astoria. Writers of all experience levels and in various poetic styles, from published authors to students and first-time poets, are welcome to participate.

We do ask that writers include a name and town of residence with their entry. Watch for selected poems to appear in a future issue of Coast Weekend.
