Liberty Theatre hosts Ilwaco music fundraiser

The Ilwaco High School concert band will be among the musical groups performing at the Liberty Theatre on Wednesday.

ASTORIA — Ilwaco High School musical groups will perform at the Liberty Theatre in Astoria at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The performances will be part of the theater’s “Homegrown Series” mission of supporting educational programs in the performing arts, which was created in 2016. Admission is by donation.

Doors open at 6 p.m. and seating is general admission. Performances start at 7 p.m. and will feature the concert band, jazz band, concert choir and mariachi band, which was formed at the beginning of this school year.

The concert band will perform “Choose Joy” by Randall Standridge, the jazz band will perform “Go Daddy Oh” by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and the concert choir will perform “Battle of Jericho” and “The Phantom of the Opera” title song. The mariachi band will perform a piece by Pedro Fernandez.

Director Rachel Lake said donations will go towards the Ilwaco High School Music Club’s travels. The jazz band will travel to Hawaii to perform at Pearl Harbor, the choir has earned an invitation to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City and the mariachi band will perform at an international festival in San Antonio, Texas. Fundraising continues for all the groups to travel to Florida in 2026.
