Acclaimed poet leads workshop, reading in Manzanita

Poet Major Jackson will read from his latest book Friday at St. Catherine's Episcopal Church before leading a workshop at Hoffman Center for the Arts.

MANZANITA — Poet Major Jackson will lead a workshop and read from his latest collection, “Razzle Dazzle,” at a series of events organized by the Hoffman Center for the Arts.

At 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jackson will read selections from his latest book at St. Catherine’s Episcopal Church in Nehalem, followed by a poetry workshop at the Hoffman Center starting at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Jackson is the author of six books of poetry, including “The Absurd Man,” “Roll Deep” and “Leaving Saturn,” winner of the Cave Canem Poetry Prize.

He has been a recipient of multiple fellowships and has been awarded a Pushcart Prize, a Whiting Writers’ Award and has been honored by the Pew Fellowship in the Arts and the Witter Bynner Foundation in conjunction with the U.S. Library of Congress.

His work has appeared in The New Yorker, Orion Magazine, The Paris Review and others. He is currently an elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and serves as the Poetry Editor of The Harvard Review.
