The Writers Read Celebration, an annual event organized by the Cannon Beach Library, is seeking submissions of various writing styles centered on a theme.

This year’s theme is “Beach Noir,” building on the genre of noir fiction. The library describes the genre as taking place “in a dark or foreboding setting, though the tone and descriptions can be unconventional and playful.”

Varied written formats will be considered, including essays, short stories, poems, haikus and scripts.

Submissions should be in word format and be accompanied by a separate cover letter that includes the writer’s name, email and phone number. Entries may not exceed 600 words, and the author’s name should not appear on the entry document. Submissions are open through Feb. 2, 2024.

Volunteers will choose between 10 and 12 works to be read by their authors during the event, which will be held in-person at the library and via Zoom on March 22. For details, visit www.cannonbeachlibrary.org.
