- Ink on tile creations demonstrating bold use of bright colors is a characteristic of art by Long Beach Peninsula resident Bonnie Ward.
Bonnie Ward studied architectural drawing for an early career, had a family and worked as a commercial driver and a small-town newspaper editor before finding time to rediscover her art.

She savors the decision.
“I got back into art and found I enjoyed it,” said the Ocean Park, Washington, resident. “I don’t have cable and you can only read so many books,” she laughed. “I find it lifts my spirit.”
Ward’s art involves ink on paper and tile. “It’s wild and vivid,” she said.

Her creations will be among those displayed at the Fall Artisan Tour, hosted by the Peninsula Arts Association. Leaders of the group are inviting residents and visitors to check out the work of multiple artists from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
“The group is a bit smaller than most years, but the art will certainly be delightful,” said Bette Lu Krause, one of the organizers.
The event has been held since 2007. This fall, eight locations are planned.
While only three artists plan to open up their studios, several have opted to gather in a couple of clusters to display their creations.
Two locations hosting multiple artists are the Old Train Depot in Long Beach and the Ocean Park Retreat Center.
Those at the depot will be Dierdre Duewel, who creates mosaic garden art, Heather Phillips, who designs jewelry pottery, cards and scarves, and Lori McDonald, who paints Byzantine icons.
At the retreat center will be Ward, Krause, who has paintings, prints and T-shirts, Brenda Sharkey, who works in mixed media, Judy Cox, who makes art cards, works in mixed media and assemblage, and Robin Stromholt, who paints in acrylics and mixed media.
Three galleries will promote the work of more than 90 artists. They are BOLD Coffee, Art and Framing in Long Beach, the Bay Avenue Gallery in Ocean Park and J. Brunner Fine Art in Ilwaco.
“We get to meet a lot of new people, as well as people who come every year,” said Greg Holmes, at BOLD. “It gives the artists more exposure — it’s a fun event.”
Individuals hosting visitors at their studios are Judy Leonard, who has acrylic and watercolor paintings and art dolls in Ocean Park; Don Perry, who creates metal art for interior and exterior display in Ocean Park; and Jim Unwin, who will display wooden art in Long Beach. Harmony Soapworks will also have handcrafted soap and bath products in Ocean Park.
Harmony and the trio at the Old Train Depot are open to visitors on Friday and Saturday only.
Maps are available to download at www.beach artist.org or people can pick up printed copies at BOLD Coffee, Art and Framing in Long Beach, the Bay Avenue Gallery in Ocean Park and the Marie Powell Gallery in Ilwaco.
Ward said the tour gives her the opportunity to share her joy in creating. “I found when I use alcohol ink, it is very vibrant and alive,” she said. “You never know what you are going to end up with. It’s always interesting.”
