Carl Wirkkala and band members will perform in Naselle Sunday.

NASELLE, Wash. — Musician Carl Wirkkala and his new band The Whistle Punks will perform at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Naselle Community Center, in a show sponsored by the Finnish American Folk Festival.

Wirkkala, who provides lead vocals and guitar, draws on deep family roots in the Northwest — he hails from Castle Rock, Washington — to incorporate ghost tales, trains and wayward characters in his music. Several of his songs detail scenes from southwest Washington.

Over the past 20 years, Wirkkala has performed and compiled eight studio albums. For this show, he will be joined by musicians Christine McAllister on vocals and bass and Jesse Cunningham on vocals and pedal steel, who make up The Whistle Punks.
