Hideki Yamaya plays on the lute and cittern at a concert this week.

ASTORIA — Musician Hideki Yamaya will present “The Untold Story of the Mandolin,” a concert and discussion on historic mandolins, at Grace Episcopal Church 5 p.m. Sunday.

During the event, Yamaya will demonstrate three historic examples of the instrument, popular in arrangements of bluegrass and European folk music. These include the mandore, the Baroque six-course mandolin and the Lombard mandolin.
